Twins Born on Separate Days….One on Leap Day!

Twins Born on Separate Days….One on Leap Day!

Last updated on February 14th, 2024 at 09:38 pm

Newborn twin boys born at Alta Bates Summit hospital will celebrate their birthdays on different days, with one born February 28 and the other on Leap Day, February 29. One of the boys was born at 11:58 p.m. February 28 and his brother at 12:09 a.m. February 29.

The boys were born at 26 weeks gestation and will remain in the hospital’s NICU so they can grow and develop until ready to be discharged home. They are both in stable condition.

“It’s very unusual to have twins born on different days,” said hospital spokeswoman Carolyn Kemp. What are the chances it would happen with one being born on Leap Day?

How would you react? How do you think you’re twins would deal with one of them having an actual birthday every year and the other only every four years? We at Twiniversity can’t imagine having one child being able to celebrate their birthday on their actual birthday day and the other just settling to celebrate it on March 1st or along with their twin and then wait every four years to do it on his/her actual birthday. We believe there would on-going arguments/jealously between our twins. The child born on Leap Day would probably get some grief from the child born on February 28th that they can’t celebrate their special day on the ACTUAL DAY! What do you think? We hope these parents don’t have to deal with any of these issues in the future.
