A new Mom recently asked…

What are your best tips for new parents of twins?

Here’s what our Twiniversity fans had to say:

Figure out what works best for you and your family. People will try to push their theories and advice on new parents but if it doesn’t make you feel comfortable then go with your gut always.

Frustration is normal, but everyday it gets better.

If you’re new parents, trust your gut and never be afraid to ask for help.

Breathe and everything will be okay.

It’s ok to cry!

Don’t apologize when people stop by and your house isn’t perfectly clean.

Learn to prioritize and take it easy!

Refill all supplies (diapers, wipes , change of clothes) before you go to bed so you don’t have to fumble with it in the middle of the night.

Keep a folder and write down the time and amount of each twin’s feedings and pee/poo schedule. If a problem arises and the pediatrician asks about it and you’ll never remember who did what otherwise.

Enjoy it! There is a lot of stressing during pregnancy, but not many people get to have such a cool experience of having twins. New parents — take advantage of a really cool part of your life.

Schedule, schedule, schedule! Keep everything on a schedule and it becomes much easier but be somewhat flexible because there’s nothing more unpredictable than babies, except 2 babies.

Stay calm, enjoy every moment good or bad and remember tomorrow is another day! Smile more with your babies and stress less!

Have NO expectations and be flexible. Having multiples means you have to go with the flow and take each day as it comes and do what works best for your family and your situation.

You are not a failure if you can’t breastfeed your twins. As long as you love them and try to be the best mother you can be you will NEVER be a failure.

Nap when they nap. No need to make yourself more exhausted to do things when they are sleeping. The house doesn’t have to be in perfect order.

If you can afford it, hire a night nurse or nanny to help at least 2 nights a week.

It’s going to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done, but take one day at a time and do what works for YOU. Not what everyone else tells you that you *should* be doing. You’re the parents, you know your babies the best.

Remember the sleepless nights do not last forever.

There is a difference in having twins and having kids close in age. Don’t let anyone tell you they know what you are going through unless they have twins themselves!

Get on a schedule as soon as possible and don’t break it. Always remember your trying your best so don’t be so hard on yourself, you’re outnumbered.

One up, both up; and anytime you feed/change one, do the other. Makes it so you are not having to do it constantly around the clock.

Get some sleep every time they sleep. It’s exhausting taking care of twins. But it’s a lot easier to care for two if you are rested.

Pray a lot.

Everything is just a phase and you’ll be on to a new one soon enough.

Stock up on diapers!

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself!! Everything will work itself out! It’s not easy, but so worth it!

If you’re doing the best that you can, then you’re doing great.

Stay calm! Taking care of yourself is as important as taking care of the babies.

Breathe, you can do this!

The house, laundry and dishes will still be there. So nap when they nap to keep your sanity

Don’t let the fear overcome you. You’re a lot stronger than you think.

Trust your instincts. If you think something is wrong, ask — don’t hesitate! It’s okay to be overly worried or inquisitive.

Give yourself some grace, you are only one person taking care of 2 people.

Be flexible and communicate to others what is actually helpful when they offer to help

If a family member or friend offers to help do not turn them down. All hands on deck in the early stages, even if it is only for a short amount of time. Let family, friends, neighbors help with meals, or watching the twins while you nap, whatever help is offered accept it!

Don’t compare your parenting experiences to that of singleton parents!

Laugh a lot or you will be crying a lot.

Only use the advice that works for you and your family. Everyone has different experiences and what worked for them might not work for you.
