How Long Will It Take to Get My Pre-Pregnancy Body Back After Twins?

I’m curious to know how long it took all of you to get your pre-pregnancy body somewhat back following the birth of your multiples. I’m feeling really down about how long it is taking.

Here’s What Our Twiniversity Fans Had to Say:

Honestly, I gave myself a year off before even trying. It takes just shy of a million years for your uterus to get back to a somewhat normal configuration, I don’t see the sense in rushing to be skinny when I have a floppy uterus and babies to take care of.

I’m 21 months post delivery. I’m trying to convince myself that my body will never be the same again. I’m a working mom who just hasn’t figured out time for self-care yet with a household to take care of and twin toddlers to rear.

This is your new normal and it’s ok. You made two (or more) humans at once and now you have the body to prove it.

My boys are 1-year-old and I’ve gained so much weight. I looked better a week after I had them than I do now. My husband constantly reminds me that I gave birth to two babies and I’m 30, so it won’t be as easy as it used to be to get into shape. Just know you are beautiful no matter what! Keep your head up! I know it’s far from easy. Good luck!

My boys will be 11 months on Saturday and I just recently started a new diet and exercise plan. I’m giving myself small weekly goals (Week one: drink half body weight in water. Week 2: Drink water and walk at least 15 minutes a day, etc.) This way I keep accomplishing goals and don’t get overwhelmed by the “get my body back” goal. Little by little I feel like I’ll get there. I’m down 5 lbs since I started my diet and exercise! One day at a time!

I’m currently 11 months postpartum and just started really “dieting” and working out daily. I’m working hard to get healthier, stronger and ultimately happier. I count calories, eat as healthy as I can and do body weight, actual weights and cardio at Orange Theory Fitness. I wasn’t this active before twins. I’m different, but because I don’t remember what I was before. It’s a new me, but a good me.

I think what most people don’t talk about, is that even if you get back to your pre-pregnancy weight (if that is the goal), your body is different now. You’ve grown humans. Things have spread, and stretched, and been through the ringer. I can’t speak for all women, and I don’t know your age or exact situation, but speaking for myself, I was 37 when I got knocked up with my twins. I considered myself to be in fairly good shape/health. I’ve never owned a scale, so the only reason I know what I weighed throughout the pregnancy, is because the damn doctor kept telling me. I feel just as healthy and active as I was before, and I generally think I look the same, but my body is just slightly different now. I’ve accepted this, and I hope the same for all the other strong mommas out there!

I lost the weight incredibly fast. I breastfed and by my 6-week checkup post pregnancy, I weighed even less than I did before even getting pregnant. I was like “this is fantastic”. Breastfeeding twins is nuts. Burn 1000 calories a day just sitting on your ass. Sign me up! Was in a bikini a month later and felt great! BUT, then I quit breastfeeding at 9 months and bam! I turned into a beached whale. Had I known I would have breastfed forever.

∼ AB

I think it depends on your body type and how you carried your babies as well. Keep your expectations realistic.

∼ KF

I weigh about the same today as I did before conceiving my twins, and I was back to a pre-pregnancy weight (less, actually) by 6 weeks postpartum. BUT my body has never gotten back to normal, if by “normal” you mean pre-pregnancy. My stomach is bigger, flabbier and weaker, and since my twins are 6 years old, I would suppose that this is my new normal.

∼ SB

My twins are 2.5-years-old and I still haven’t gotten my pre-pregnancy body back. I exclusively pumped for 6 months after their birth and went to less than my pre-pregnancy weight very quickly. Unfortunately, I put it all back on in the months that followed. My weight aside I have severe Diastasis Recti. I got an umbilical hernia while pregnant and getting it repaired soon. Part of that is due to weight (I’ve lost 17 lbs though!) and part is the severe Diastasis. After my hernias are repaired my doctor wants to refer me to physical therapy to work on bringing the muscles back together. Once I’ve completed therapy I’m going to see where I’m at and possibly seek out plastic surgery to remedy it.

Be kind to yourself! It took 9 months to make them and you had TWO babies in there. Just focus on taking care of them and you too.

I don’t think my body will ever be the same as it was before having babies. My feet got bigger. My rib cage expanded. And the skin on my stomach is permanently damaged. But I carried 3 wonderful humans inside me (a singleton then twins). So I’m okay with it. Although I may never wear a bikini again.

∼ RC

By the time mine were 3 I was in the best shape of my life. Running after 2 toddlers, pretty much living off the food left on their plate. No kidding, I really miss them being toddlers.

∼ AD

It took 6 months to lose the weight. At a year I had my Diastasis Recti corrected, which made a huge difference. I still have all that extra skin though. That isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

∼ LC

Everyone is different. That being said it took me around 7/8 months to get back to my pre-baby weight. 3 months later my body is definitely nowhere near what it used to be.

∼ JBE

I started yoga post when my twins were 15 months old and started feeling better. I don’t think I’ll get my pre-pregnancy body back, but I am happy with my mommy body.

∼ JK

My twins are 6 months. I feel the same way. I get really upset when I look in the mirror. I’ve been eating healthy and trying to do physical activity whenever I can. I work and go to school so time is probably my biggest struggle right now.

∼ BB

My twins are 2 1/2 and I’m pretty sure my pre-pregnancy body is never coming back!

∼ CR

A year out and I have gained some weight, so I’m not exactly back to my pre-pregnancy body. I, like most MoMs, have diastasis recti so my tummy is a little wonky looking. Also, of course, there’s loose skin. BUT I had two 7 lbs babies! The trick is to stop looking at yourself as what you once were but what you are now. I dress differently to accommodate my new body type and since having done that I’ve been more comfortable with myself.

∼ DNG

Don’t be hard on yourself. It takes a lot of time and it will never totally be the same as before. Babies like squish. It’s all good.

∼ AL

I’m 2 years post delivery and still waiting for my pre-pregnancy body.

∼ KBM

I’m 11 months out and still have 15/20 pounds left to lose to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I’ve accepted this as my new normal, while still eating right and continuing exercise. I’m not going to beat myself up over it. I carried 2 babies at the same time. Things are different now and that’s okay. Give yourself time and grace.
