What You Wish You Were Warned About Before Your Twin C-Section

What You Wish You Were Warned About Before Your Twin C-Section

What to know about a twin c-section

If you’re prepping for your first-ever c-section as a twin parent, you probably want the inside scoop of what to expect. Here’s what other twin moms said they felt totally unprepared for with their twin c-section!

I thought I did my due-diligence asking surface-level questions to other moms who had been through C-sections before—like my older sister who had two c-sections and a high school friend who had twins via c-section the year before.

But looking back, I wish I would have told them to be brutally honest and give me all the gory (even if overwhelming) details because the day after I had my twins, I felt like I was totally blindsided and unprepared for so much of the surgery and recovery process.

And around here, we never want you to feel that way! Because twin pregnancy and twin parenting is challenging enough, and you deserve the honest truth so you can feel as prepared and as confident as possible for your twin c-section and delivery

That’s why we recently asked our community:

What is the one thing you felt completely blind-side by or unprepared for with the c-section itself or the recovery process?

And here’s what twin moms shared:

Actually, it wasn’t as bad as I thought…

“I was surprised by how fast I recovered. Wasn’t as bad as I was told.” – defranco

“Wasn’t expecting my arms and hands to become numb too. But spinal wasn’t as bad as I thought!” – sophis_rose

“Nothing. My team walked me through it clearly and checked in every step of the way.” – zaheedavirani

“I had an amazing doctor and an amazing dual that explained everything step by step and felt safe and prepared and there were no surprises, even when it was unplanned.” – Claubennettp

The sensations of recovery…

“The burning sensation as the nerves were coming back together and healing. Homeopathy was my lifesaver.” — _halie_marie

“I had zero pain with my singleton c-section and was completely blindsided by the pain with my twin c-section.” – ajxxi

“The gas lol” – ohmercie

“The gas pains!!!” – kaymrizz

“The gas you get afterwards! Not only embarrassing but so painful!” – maryhaglund

“How hard it would be to do anything in the hospital while being so limited physically.” – alisonmlada

“How hard it is to poop for weeks afterwards.” – mandanade

“The after effects of a c-section are actually somewhat similar to vaginal birth (i.e. bleeding)!” – tor_smith1111

“The shakes. I had them so bad for around 5 days.”

“I feel like I was unprepared for so many things: the intense shaking during the c-section and just after, the excruciating gas pain that radiated up into my shoulders, and the most painful poop of my entire life—like pushing out a shard of glass. Thinking I would’ve felt more prepared if we didn’t have to move the delivery up and do an emergency c-section 2 days before the scheduled one.” – Paige
