Many parents of multiples choose to bottle feed their babies. Whether you are feeding your babies formula or breast milk — there are so many tips and tricks to make bottle feeding easier that we thought we’d share some of our favorite bottle feeding tips with you!

1. Brands are not interchangeable

If you bought a whole set of bottles from Company A and you try to use them with nipples from Company B, it most likely won’t work right. Once you find a brand that you like, stick with it. Off-brand parts can leak and cause the bottle to not work correctly.

2. Nipple flow can make the difference

Nipple flow is very important. If the formula is dribbling out of the corners of your baby’s mouth while eating, the flow of the nipple could be too fast. Or, conversely, if your baby is sucking away for a long time and starts to get really tired and not much milk has left the bottle, she might be exhausted because the milk flow is too slow. Most bottle manufacturers sell several different flow strengths so try out a few different flows to see what works best. MAM sells 4 different kinds — slow, medium, fast, and cross cut.

MAM23. Low-gas bottles are worth trying

If your baby is colicky or gassy, try switching to a bottle that helps with gas. These bottles redirect the flow of air so that less air goes into your child’s mouth when sucking. MAM sells an anti-colic bottle that you should check out!

4. Try an electric formula mixer

This handy tool helps break up formula powder. You can find these for less than $10 and they are battery powered. You simply place the powder and water into a single bottle like you normally do, then use the hand mixer to churn up the formula. It takes about as much time as shaking the bottle by hand, only you’ll find less chunks of formula on the bottom which will help avoid nipple clogs.

5. Make one big batch for the whole day

Powdered formula lasts up to 24 hours in the refrigerator after it’s mixed. With two or more babies you will be making a lot of formula MANY times a day, so why not make one big batch in the morning and pour out your bottles from there? This will save you a lot of time and energy. You will need to buy a bottle warmer if you go this route.
