From stretch marks to extra skin around your belly to discomfort moving your core muscles, you may be feeling like your body is totally out of sorts after delivering twins.  You’re not alone, so we asked other twin moms to chime in with their postpartum twin belly insights!

We recently had a twin mom ask:

I’m 8 months postpartum after a c-section and a first time mom. My stomach has shrunk a lot, but now I feel like I have a lot of excess skin and it’s just making me look so big and I just feel so bad about myself. I’m on a diet, not going to the gym regularly because it’s hard with the kids, but I move around a lot during the day and with my twins being upstairs going up and down at least 20 times a day. Has anyone tried a belly band or recommend any other things to do at home?

So we asked our twin parent community to chime and and tell us:

“What helped with your extra belly skin postpartum?”

And here’s what twin moms had to say about their postpartum belly after twins:

Twin pregnancy postpartum belly

A few things helped…

“During pregnancy, I rubbed oil on my stomach everyday. I do have stretch marks on the side, belly button and under my belly button. I think it’s cute. With my twins, I did get the biggest I’ve ever been and postpartum it took me a long time to feel connected to my new body. I did not stress about going to the gym, not until the twins were on a schedule & I was actually sleeping. What helped was taking collagen and protein shakes. Now, 5 years later, it’s a lot of water, fasting, & talking to my body. I’m still in admiration and in awe that I really carried two at once. Be gentle on yourselves mommas and don’t compare yourself to no one!” — Sharon

“Strength training and time.” — Isa

“Home microneedling, tretinoin/retinol, self-massage/cupping.” — Luzie

“Deep core/360 breathing and 1% tretinoin and time.” — Monica

“I don’t know if it’s helping but I’m doing castor oil roller.” — Cabo_Glam_Hair_Studio

“Dry brushing” — Tianessa

“Keep it VERY hydrated. It avoided more stretch marks.” — Pamela

Nursing helped some…

“Breastfeeding twins seems to burn so many calories for me that the weight has slowly trickled off (I gained nearly 60 lbs). And I use an abdominal binder on days I work because I’m on my feet for 10-12 hours sometimes. Without the binder, my core muscles and my back really start to hurt. The binder reminds me to keep everything engaged. I somehow didn’t get stretch marks so it’s possible to carry a twin pregnancy to term—over 12 pounds of baby at delivery—and not get stretch marks. I used almond oil daily on my belly throughout pregnancy. Some of it must be genetics and luck. Some of it is hard work postpartum. And if surgery is the answer, that’s fine too–momfidence makeover!” — Amani

“Breastfeeding and gentle core floor exercises. I still have an umbilical hernia and loose skin, but I’m a healthy weight so not sweating it. Twins are 7.” — Raina

“I exclusively nursed for 13 months. That helped me lose all the weight plus 15 more lbs. My stomach got flatter, but skin is a little loose and soft. My belly button looks kind of weird. Other than that, my stomach doesn’t look too bad. I started lifting weights when they were 14 months and that helped some. It probably won’t ever look the same, but I am ok with that.” — Kristin

Medical intervention…

“A tummy tuck, no shame! 5’2”, super fit pre-pregnancy, carried full term with my twins, 3 inch ab separation pubic bone to sternum despite a year of physical therapy. They fixed my abs and took all that extra loose skin. Best decision ever!” — Tara

“I did the surgery path, but my abs were also fixed (8cm separation). So while I was getting that fixed, I fixed myself. Truly helped me mentally.” — Amy

Just time and loving my body…

“Nothing, and that’s okay!” — kderv429

“I don’t believe there’s anything you can do about extra skin except surgery or self love. I had diastasis-recti after mine and was able to shrink my belly and mom pooch with deep core exercises but the loose skin and stretch marks will remain.” — Reanna

“My twin belly postpartum was wild! Aside from the stretch marks, I feel like it took forever for my belly to go back down. For weeks after my delivery, well-meaning folks in the NICU cafeteria would ask when I was due because my belly was still so big. Now 3 years later I still have a bit of a pooch, extra skin, and a slightly saggy belly button. But I have learned to love my body for all that it’s done for me. The extra skin occasionally bothers me still, but I feel like with more time, it will bounce back a little more.” — Paige

“I have 5 year old twins, so pretty far out from this stage, but there is a level of love that comes with it in time! My kids love to know that’s where they grew and they stretched out mommy’s belly because there were two in at a time. But compared to 8 months postpartum, it’s totally different, your body is still healing and shifting.” — Angela

“I have a little bit of a stomach since having my twinnies 9 months ago (baby 2&3), and I actually admire my new body. I grew and birthed 2 babies at once and it still amazes me.” — Hamish.plus.twins

Time, patience and acceptance. What choices do we really have?” — Rachel

“Accepting and loving it. Bodies change and are not meant to be changed or shrunk back to pre pregnancy size.” — Caitlin

“Almost 3 years later and the tummy is still there… Now, I wonder if another pregnancy will actually make my belly look better?!” — Hannah

“I have 9-week old twins and a 6 finger diastasis. I know it’s still early days and I have a lot of healing to do. But some days I’m horrified when I lie down and can see the movement of my insides and all this skin. I’ve also been a swimwear model for 23 years, so seeing my body like this is a big change… but I also feel quite badass because I grew 2 whole humans. I’ve started physiotherapy and will take it one day at a time. There’s all the room for acceptance or surgery and I feel lucky that I’ll be supported whatever I choose to do down the line.” — Lauren
