In episode 73 of the Twiniversity Podcast, Nat chats with Dr. Susan Wenze, a twin mom and clinical psychologist specializing in perinatal mental health (especially among new parents of multiples). They discuss postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders in parents of multiples. Susan explains the research study she is currently recruiting for (as of Feb. 2020) and how you can participate.

Postpartum mood disorders are more common with multiple births. If you have a history of mood disorders (depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, etc.) you may want to plan ahead with your doctor during your pregnancy on how you’ll keep an eye on your mood after the birth. However, even if you haven’t had a history of mood disorders you can still experience them postpartum.
Talk to your doctor if you feel that anything is “off” in the postpartum period — mentally, physically, or emotionally. You will be seeing your babies’ doctor more frequently and they are also trained to spot postpartum mood disorders so don’t be afraid to talk to your pediatrician as well if you have a hard time getting out of the house to see your obstetrician.
